In short:
Overseas voting centres return for the 2026 Victorian state election for the first time since 2018, with in-person voting available in 21 countries. Victorians travelling interstate can also vote at electoral commission offices ahead of the 28 November election.
Voting Options Available Interstate And Abroad
Victorians travelling interstate or overseas during the upcoming state election will have several options to cast their vote, including the return of overseas voting centres for the first time since 2018.
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has confirmed that eligible voters outside Victoria will be able to vote in person at selected locations or apply for a postal vote ahead of the 28 November 2026 state election.
Overseas voting centres will operate in 21 countries, restoring a service that was unavailable during the 2022 election due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Locations will range from major international cities, including Dublin, to remote destinations such as Antarctica.
Voters overseas can also request ballot papers by email, print them and return their completed votes to Victoria by post or through selected drop-off locations.
Interstate Voting Arrangements
Victorians travelling interstate can vote at Australian state or territory electoral commission offices during business hours between 20 November and 27 November.
Those travelling within Victoria can attend any voting centre across the state, rather than having to return to their home electorate.
Early voting and postal voting will also be available for residents unable to attend a voting centre on election day.
Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel said voters planning to travel should consider their options before leaving.
‘If you’re travelling on Saturday 28 November, you can choose to vote early, register for a postal vote or access in-person voting, including our interstate and overseas voting options. Plan ahead and make sure your voice is heard.’
Voting remains compulsory for eligible Victorians, including those travelling during the election period.
A full list of interstate and overseas voting locations, along with postal voting information, is available through the VEC website.
Voters can also contact the commission on 131 832 for further information.
