Detectives from the Gang Crime Squad are investigating a non-fatal shooting in Altona North overnight, with early indications the incident may be linked to the illicit tobacco trade.
Emergency services were called to Borrack Square about 11.30pm on Tuesday 17 March following reports a man had been shot outside a premises.
Police believe a large group of people had been gathered outside a café when a silver Toyota Hilux approached. Multiple shots were then fired into the crowd.
A 49-year-old man sustained two gunshot wounds to the arm. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The offenders fled the scene in the vehicle, which was later found burnt out at the intersection of McArthurs and Chambers roads about 2.50am.
A crime scene has been established and investigations remain ongoing. Police believe the shooting was targeted and are examining possible links to other incidents.
