Station Parking The Latest Promise

Labor has made an election promise to deliver additional free parking at Williams Landing Station, although the proposal comes without a confirmed cost, number of spaces or construction timeline.

Point Cook MP Mathew Hilakari announced the commitment on 4 November alongside Laverton MP Sarah Connolly, ahead of the Victorian state election on 28 November.

The proposal involves converting land between the Princes Freeway and the station platform into additional commuter parking.

Under the proposed arrangement, motorists would enter via the Forsyth Road freeway entrance and exit onto Triholm Avenue, near Aircraft Station.

Williams Landing Station sits within the Laverton electorate, on the border of Point Cook, and serves commuters from several surrounding suburbs.

The announcement comes amid longstanding concerns about parking availability at the station, particularly during peak commuting periods.

Election Battle Approaches

Despite polling suggesting Labor could face a substantial statewide swing against it, Connolly’s seat of Laverton appears relatively safe, while Hilakari remains well-placed to retain Point Cook.

Both electorates have historically favoured Labor, although the broader political environment has become increasingly competitive.

While the parking proposal identifies a potential location and access arrangement, Labor has not announced how many additional spaces would be delivered or how much the project would cost.

No construction commencement or completion date has been provided.

The commitment remains dependent on Labor winning another term in government, with further planning required before any additional parking becomes available.
