Three-Week Closure for Safety and Capacity Upgrades to Impact West Gate Freeway Connection
Motorists in Melbourne’s west should expect delays of up to 30 minutes over a three-week period in November and December, as key capacity and safety upgrades are undertaken on a vital freeway connection.

The outbound exit from the West Gate Freeway to the M80 Ring Road (Greensborough-bound) will be closed from 10pm on Tuesday, 19 November, until 5am on Monday, 9 December.

Suggested detours include:
• Taking the earlier exit at Grieve Parade, then using Geelong, Little Boundary, and Boundary roads to reach the M80.
• Continuing onto the Princes Freeway, performing a U-turn at Kororoit Creek Road, and backtracking to reach the M80.
• Exiting at Kororoit Creek Road, then using Fitzgerald Road to access the M80 or Robinsons Road to reach the Western Freeway.
The closure will allow crews to work around the clock, replacing over 550 metres of railing on concrete safety barriers along the ramp.
Additional overnight works are planned in the coming months, including further lane and ramp closures affecting connections between the Princes Freeway, West Gate Freeway, and M80 Ring Road.
These works are scheduled overnight to minimise disruption for commuters. On-road signage will provide information about closures, timings, and detours.
These upgrades are part of the M80 Capacity Improvements Project between the Princes Freeway and Western Freeway. The works include the addition of a Greensborough-bound lane, a smart freeway management system, and ramp signals to enhance traffic flow and incident management on the M80 Ring Road.
